Ronald McDonald House Toronto – Tour

CSPN’s visit to the Ronald McDonald House was an inspiring experience to say the least, one that we will never forget.  From the moment we arrived, we understood that this was a special place for families to spend time while their child was under the care of The Sick Children’s Hospital.  RMH is an organization that spends quality time assisting families in making their lives as normal and easy as possible in a beautiful, caring and safe environment, while their child undergoes treatment at the hospital.

They have many areas to help families feel at home, from a library, a craft room, an indoor area to play when weather is not conducive, to an outdoor playing area, to a school, (yes, a school) to a kitchen and well stocked pantry. They have thought of everything!  Many programs are available through the RMH such as cooking and nutrition classes, child-life classes, meals on the go and summer camp. The house also includes a laundry room, a gym, a park seating area and an indoor lounging area.  The rooms throughout the house are very spacious and comfortable and can accommodate a family if required.

Best of yet, is the many messages located on chalk boards outside their doors introducing themselves and their personal story.  It tugged at our heart strings, however we felt proud of the work that RMH has accomplished and the many families they have been able to help.

CSPN and its members are extremely proud to support such a worthy cause and hope to do more advocating for this wonderful organization in the future.

Here are some facts:

  • RMH Toronto is an 81-family house that supported 837 families in 2017
  • The average length of stay was 23 days
  • 31% had a child with a cancer diagnosis
  • 30% with a cardiac condition
  • 8% were facing organ transplants
